GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB FUNCTION:
The Assistant Lighting Supervisor is a vital leadership role within Hale Centre Theatre’s Lighting & Video Department, directly supporting the execution of lighting designs across our Broadway-caliber productions and Theatre Education programs. This full-time, year-round position works hands-on to maintain lighting systems, lead crews, and uphold the artistic integrity of every show. The ideal candidate brings strong professional experience in theatrical lighting, expertise with modern lighting technologies, and proven leadership in fast-paced production environments. This is not a training position and is not intended for students or entry-level applicants.
Primary Responsibilities:
Serve as Assistant Production Electrician or Production Electrician as assigned, supporting the successful execution of lighting designs for all productions
Lead and supervise lighting crews during load-ins, focuses, technical rehearsals, changeovers, and strikes, ensuring efficiency, safety, and artistic consistency
Collaborate with the Lighting Supervisor and Department Head to plan and implement lighting systems, help manage prep / day to day workflows, and maintain production documentation
Maintain and troubleshoot theatrical lighting systems and infrastructure across all venues, including intelligent fixtures, dimmers, relays, DMX distribution, power systems, networked controls and any new additional technology implemented
Oversee the cleanliness, safety, and organization of all lighting workspaces, including work rooms, catwalks, dimmer/server rooms, and storage areas
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including light plots, hookups, instrument schedules, hang paperwork, and any show required documentation
Support equipment upkeep, repairs, and system upgrades as part of ongoing departmental maintenance
Perform other duties as assigned by the Lighting Supervisor, Head of Lighting & Video, or Theatre Management
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Minimum five years of professional experience as a theatrical or entertainment electrician, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong working knowledge of ETC-based lighting systems, including EOS consoles, dimming, and network protocols (sACN, Art-Net).
Ability to program, manage, and troubleshoot complex lighting rigs, including networking, control systems, power distribution, wireless DMX, intelligent fixtures, static LED/conventional units, battery-powered practicals, and atmospherics.
Proficient in Vectorworks for drafting and planning light plots.
Proficient in Lightwright for tracking and managing paperwork.
Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast-paced production environment.
Comfortable working at heights and navigating ladders, catwalks, lifts, and other physical rigging environments.
Experience with Zactrack or other tracking systems is preferred but not required.
Experience with pyrotechnics and laser systems is preferred but not required.
