Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Audio A2 to join our sound department for theatrical productions. This role is vital to ensuring clear, high-quality sound, and involves close collaboration with the A1 (Lead Audio Engineer), actors, and the rest of the production team. The ideal candidate is friendly, communicative, a team player, and experienced in working with wireless microphones and theater sound systems. This position requires a strong work ethic, a willingness to ask questions when necessary, and the ability to perform in high-pressure environments, particularly during the holiday season.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the setup, maintenance, and operation of wireless microphones, ensuring proper functioning throughout rehearsals and performances.
- Perform mic checks, troubleshoot issues, and provide fast solutions for any wireless microphone problems that arise during live performances.
- Work closely with actors to fit and secure microphones, asking for consent when necessary to assist them with placement or adjustments.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with the A1, actors, stage management, and other members of the sound department to ensure smooth audio operations.
- Collaborate with the sound team during rehearsals, performances, and technical runs to deliver consistent and professional audio support.
- Be available to work long hours, especially during the holiday season, including nights and weekends, as needed for the production schedule.
- Proactively ask questions to clarify tasks, technical requirements, and actor needs to ensure a high level of performance.
- Maintain a professional, friendly demeanor when interacting with the cast, crew, and other members of the production team.
- Participate in pre-show setup and post-show breakdown of audio equipment, ensuring all gear is safely and properly stored.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience working with wireless microphones in a theater environment is required.
- A strong understanding of basic sound principles and live audio mixing.
- Hands-on experience with mic rigging and actor mic placement.
- Excellent communication skills and a willingness to collaborate with a team.
- Ability to troubleshoot under pressure and solve audio-related issues quickly.
- Experience working in theater productions, including understanding the unique challenges of live performances.
- A team-oriented mindset, with a willingness to take initiative and support fellow team members.
- Must be comfortable working closely with actors and asking for permission when assisting with microphone placement or adjustments.
- A positive attitude and strong work ethic, especially during high-demand periods such as the holiday season.
Work Environment-
- Fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative theater production environment.
- Extended hours during tech rehearsals, previews, and performances, particularly around holidays.
- Physical activity, including standing for long periods and handling audio equipment.
You must have transportation to/from work and be in the state with your residence.
